The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is the licensing screening test conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) who have completed their MBBS degree from a foreign medical institution. Clearing FMGE is mandatory to register with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a State Medical Council and practise medicine in India.
Since NBEMS conducts FMGE twice every year — in June and December — keeping track of every deadline, from application form release to result declaration, is critical for aspirants. This blog covers the complete FMGE 2026 exam calendar, including the application schedule, admit card release, exam day details, and result timeline, based on official NBEMS notifications.

Note: All December 2026 session dates above are tentative projections based on previous year patterns and the NBEMS tentative exam calendar released on December 29, 2025. Only the June 2026 dates are officially confirmed via the NBEMS information bulletin. Candidates must always cross-check the latest updates on the official website, natboard.edu.in, since NBEMS can revise dates without prior notice.
FMGE is not a competitive exam — it’s a qualifying/screening test. Candidates need to score at least 150 out of 300 marks (50%) to pass, with no category-wise relaxation for General, OBC, SC, or ST candidates. Since there’s no cap on the number of attempts, thousands of foreign medical graduates appear for FMGE every session, making it essential to stay updated on every date in the FMGE 2026 calendar so you don’t miss the application window, the correction facility, or the admit card release.
Missing even one of these deadlines — especially the last date to apply — means waiting an entire six months for the next session.
The NBEMS officially released the FMGE June 2026 information bulletin on April 21, 2026, confirming the exam date as:
This is a significant update for thousands of Indian students who completed their MBBS abroad and are now preparing to appear for India’s mandatory licensing screening test.
As of now, the December 2026 session date has not been officially confirmed by NBEMS. Based on the tentative exam calendar released by NBEMS on December 29, 2025, and previous year trends, the December 2026 session is expected to be held in the last week of December 2026.
Candidates preparing for the December session should keep checking natboard.edu.in regularly, as NBEMS typically releases the official information bulletin for the December session around mid-October.

Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Appear for FMGE 2026?
Must be an Indian citizen or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) to be eligible for FMGE.
Must hold a primary medical qualification equivalent to MBBS from a recognised foreign medical institution.
The foreign medical institution must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).
The qualification must be recognised and authenticated as per applicable regulatory norms.
Candidates must have completed their medical course and received their final result before the application deadline.
Candidates must possess a valid NMC Eligibility Certificate, where applicable, before applying.
The FMGE admit card 2026 is one of the most-searched updates closer to exam day, as it contains the exam centre, reporting time, and roll number.

| Admit Card Release | June 24, 2026 |
Important: Candidates must carry the printed admit card along with a valid original photo ID (Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, or Driving Licence) to the exam centre. 300 minutes (150 minutes per part)

None — Since there is no negative marking in FMGE, candidates are advised to attempt all 300 questions, as unattempted answers carry zero marks just like incorrect ones — there's nothing to lose by guessing.
Candidates should reach their exam centre at least 60–90 minutes before the reporting time mentioned on the admit card, as biometric verification and document checks take time.
| Session | Expected Result Date |
|---|---|
| June 2026 Session | Last week of July 2026 (Expected) |
| December 2026 Session | February 2027 (Expected) |
Historically, NBEMS declares the FMGE result within 3–4 weeks of the exam date. For reference, the FMGE January 2026 session result was declared on January 29, 2026, with individual scorecards made available shortly after.
Please note that there is no provision for re-totaling or re-evaluation after the FMGE result is declared, as per the official exam scheme.
Once you clear FMGE with the minimum qualifying marks, you become eligible to register with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or your respective State Medical Council, which legally permits you to practise medicine in India. There is no cap on the number of attempts for FMGE — candidates who do not qualify can reapply for the next session by filling out a fresh application form and paying the fee again.
Bookmark natboard.edu.in and check it weekly once the application window approaches.
Set reminders for the application start date, last date to apply, and correction windows — these are often only open for a few days.
Avoid last-minute submission of the application form, as server load increases significantly close to the deadline.
Double-check all uploaded documents before final submission, since the correction window has limited scope.
Download your admit card as soon as it's released, rather than waiting until the last day.
